Information for low-income families

Low-income families who attend government school can get financial help with school fees – materials and services charges – through the School Card scheme. Please note, this needs to be applied for every year. Click here for applications and information.

Qkr!

Qkr! is a free mobile application that enables mobile payments for school-based accounts. QkR! allows parents and carers of students at MDS to use their smartphones to place canteen orders, Pay School fees or make uniform and excursion payments, saving time and alleviating the hassle of having to give your child money to carry to school.

Our office will receive daily detailed reports on all payments, and orders placed are filled accordingly. The application utilises MasterCard Technology to ensure the safety of all information, and allows you to pay with any scheme credit, debit, or pre-paid card accepted by the school.

When you're ready to connect to the MDS QkR service, please follow the instructions here.

Canteen

Our school canteen offers a selection of drinks and snacks available during recess and lunch. For those looking to simplify their midday meals, we offer lunch orders on Wednesdays through Fridays.

Ordering is made easy through the Qkr! app, providing a straightforward and cashless process.

Pastoral Care Worker

Dianne Nankivell

Hi. My name is Di Nankivell and I am the Pastoral Care Worker at Minlaton District School. I grew up in the Barossa Valley, moved to Stansbury about 30 years ago and have had a long and happy association with the Yorke Peninsula community.

I believe schools are a core component of a community; they are a place where relationships are formed and nurtured and a place where young people can become equipped for life; academically, socially and emotionally.

I have obtained a Diploma of Youth Work and have done many trainings relating to mental health, the well-being of young people and social and emotional skills. I provide support, care and encouragement to the whole school community and am passionate about working hard to promote the best possible outcomes for all children and families.

My hope is that all members of our school community will discover purpose, value and hope in their lives!

Please feel free to drop in and see me at school, email/phone me or message me via DayMap. You can also leave a message with staff or at the front office.

Information about BYO Student Device Program

The 'Bring Your Own' (BYO) student device program is aimed at ensuring that every student in Years 6-12 has access to a personal laptop for their learning experiences, within and beyond the school environment.

Rational

Research findings and our own firsthand observations spanning the last five years of the BYO Device policy at MDS has demonstrated a positive influence on student outcomes. Individual ownership of devices has been linked to improved organizational skills, effective learning management, and adept utilisation of online tools precisely when needed. The consistent access to personal devices plays a significant role in cultivating students' proficiency and critical engagement with technology.

Purchasing a device

Minlaton District School has partnered with Learning with Technologies to provide laptops that align with the educational requisites of the Middle/Senior School. Leveraging the purchasing power of a sizable organization, Learning with Technologies offers substantial cost reductions and extends generous warranty, finance options and technical support. Detailed information, including available laptops, device insurance, and purchasing options, can be found at https://mds.orderportal.com.au/.

It's important to note that families are not obligated to make purchases exclusively from this vendor, and they are free to explore other avenues that suit their preferences and requirements. Our aim is to provide guidance and options for informed decision-making regarding the acquisition of student devices.

Completing and signing a Digital Learning Policy form by parents and students is compulsory for use of a digital device at school, this is typically done during the enrolment process. This acknowledgment demonstrates a comprehension of the expectations regarding use of the school’s network.

Borrowing school devices

While the school offers a borrowing option for students without the means to obtain a personal device, it is important to note that the availability of school laptops is limited, and daily access is not assured. Furthermore, these borrowed laptops must remain within the school premises and cannot be taken home. Considering these limitations, if parents have the financial means to provide their child with a personal laptop, we strongly recommend doing so. This will ensure a more reliable and continuous access to educational resources, both within the school environment and beyond.
